Their first date was in 2010 at the LGBT Pride Run and their connection was instant. They spent that morning getting to know each other in beautiful Central Park, New York, sitting on a park bench prior to the race. Melinda was impressed with Shannon immediately. It was Melinda’s first race, and Shannon, an accomplished runner, shared advice with Melinda. Once the race was underway and they became separated by a sea of people and though Melinda tried her best to find Shannon, running as hard as she could, she couldn’t find her. And Shannon would tell you that by that point she knew, Melinda had run off with her heart.
These two were both whole, wonderful, thriving people on their own before they met. But their love has changed their lives. They push each other, and lift each other up and perhaps most importantly are a remarkable team in life. It’s so obvious when you see them together. Their ceremony was so touching because of the beautiful ways they explained their love for each other and because of the way they looked at each other. But maybe even more so in the way you could see they saw their own selves in a new light through the eyes of the other. It was truly beautiful.
I wish you everything you ever dream for. I look forward to hearing about your travels and adventures and seeing many photos of you as fit, wrinkly adventurous old ladies one day! Still climbing mountains, running races, and loving each other.
I wish you forever. <3
