Kevin’s voice was on the verge of breaking. It was the first time he had spoke above a whisper to Kristy as they stood together in front of the rushing waterfall and all of their friends and family. Kristy was watching him, adoringly.
Kevin and Kristy dated in High School and their families soon realized that they had spent summer afternoons together watching Kevin’s little brother Kyle and Christy’s cousin Justin play little league together. Kristy and Kevin had played near the stands and shared treats from the snack bar. But after a few years of dating in High School, Kevin and Kristy parted ways. During their years apart they would see each other occasionally but it was one time nine years after they had gone their separate ways that they realized there was still something between them that neither one of them could deny.
Kevin held Kristy’s hands and began his vows, “You know they say that when you let something go and it comes back to you, it’s yours.” He paused to collect himself, and managed to finish though his words were strained, “It couldn’t be more true.” He went on to promise to share his cereal with Kristy every morning and to try to fold the laundry.. even if only the socks. And their families laughed and cried with them just as they had when they learned of Kevin’s proposal to Kristy.
I wish you both many more happy and healthy years together with your families.. and especially with the new family you are starting.
