About 7 years ago Sam packed up his things on the East Coast and made his way out to his new home in San Diego. He traveled over 2,500 miles and set up a new life in a beautiful city. His future wife hadn’t made it there yet. Nor had they met yet. But she was close by all along. As it turns out, Karen and Sam grew up within 4 miles of each other in Northern Virginia. They wore the same school uniforms, and have photos and memories of the same places, but it would take them many years and a long distance to find each other.
When Karen moved to San Diego and was too busy with work to meet new people and explore the city, Karen’s older sister Gina reached out to her middle school friend Sam to see if he would show Karen around. They exchanged text messages and Sam invited Karen out to join him and his friends at a bar to watch a band. She agreed. He met his wife that night. It’s comforting to know that home is never far away.
