It was a warm May day when Christine and John decided to treat themselves to a day in Disneyland after months of non-stop tiring work weeks. For dinner that night they chose the Blue Bayou, a beautiful restaurant in the middle of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. John insisted on grabbing their jackets from the lockers they had stowed them in earlier in the day, just in case it was cold by the water. Christine had been suspicious about something hard and square in John’s pocket when she shoved his jacket into the locker earlier that day. But not wanting to raise her hopes she brushed it off, but now she was curious again. Indeed, it was the ring. It was John on one knee. Saying things that neither of them can remember now but professing his love for Christine and wanting to spend his life with her. They didn’t need the jackets for warmth.

On their wedding day they exchanged gifts. Christine squeezed the padded, square envelope and commented on how thick it was. We carried it with us for our pre-ceremony photos and just before the girls went back to their room to wait for the ceremony, Christine took a few moments to open her gift, season passes to Disneyland and smiled at the thought of many more memories in Disneyland and rides on Pirates of the Caribbean.

There were so many fun, personal touches to the day. Christine’s maid of honor, Kate, made a sweet, touching speech. And best man Ben cracked everyone up with a power-point presentation toast. Christine and the bridesmaids performed a surprise dance routine and the tinkling of glass and laughter went well into the night. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be a part of your lives. I am so in love with you two, together. I think the world of you as people and wish you more happiness than you can imagine.
